The Appleton Estate 12 Years Old Rare Casks Jamaica Rum 43% ABV is an expressive 12-year-old rum from Jamaica that reflects the characteristic style of the historic Appleton Estate in the Nassau Valley. To create this blend, Master Blender Joy Spence selects rare distillates from pot stills and column stills, produced using limestone-filtered water. All components of the blend are aged for at least twelve years in Jamaica’s tropical climate, resulting in an intense interaction between the distillate and the oak casks. This long tropical maturation lends the Appleton Estate Rare Casks 12 Years its distinctive depth, combining notes of toasted oak, dried fruit and hazelnut with dark cocoa, molasses, orange peel, vanilla and subtle hints of coffee.

At 43% ABV, the Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rare Casks is full-bodied and complex, whilst retaining the balanced and elegant signature of the Jamaican distillery. No additional flavourings are added during production, ensuring that the characteristic fruit, cask and toasted notes emerge from the distillation, blending and maturation processes. This edition is particularly appealing as a gift set featuring two nosing glasses: in addition to the 0.7-litre bottle, the pack includes two matching glasses in which the rum’s multi-layered bouquet can unfold to its full potential. Tasting Note

Colour: Deep bronze with a honey-gold rim and mahogany-coloured highlights.

Nose: Complex, with notes of toasted oak, dried fruit and hazelnut, followed by dark cocoa, molasses, orange peel, vanilla and a hint of coffee.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced with ripe fruit, dark cocoa, molasses, vanilla and orange peel, accompanied by nutty and delicately toasted oak notes.

Finish: Long-lasting, opulent and bittersweet with subtle notes of toast, cocoa and oak.

The Appleton Estate 12 Years Old Rare Casks is excellent served neat at room temperature in one of the two nosing glasses provided, allowing its complex cask and fruit notes to unfold particularly well. A large ice cube can also help to open up the rum slightly and bring out its softer vanilla and cocoa notes. In terms of food pairings, dark chocolate, roasted hazelnuts, orange-based desserts or strong hard cheeses go very well with this matured Jamaican rum. It is also ideal as a premium base for a Rum Old Fashioned or an aromatic Mai Tai.
