The AnCnoc 12 Years Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 40% vol., comes from the historic Knockdhu Distillery in the Scottish Highlands, which was founded in 1894 by John Morrison at the foot of Knock Hill. The brand name AnCnoc roughly translates as ‘the hill’ and directly refers to the whisky’s origins and the natural springs of the Knock Estate, whose water is still used in production today. Production is carried out using largely traditional methods, including the use of classic copper stills and worm-tub condensers. This artisanal approach results in a distinctive Highland single malt, characterised by a light, balanced and approachable distillery style.

For the AnCnoc 12 Years Old, the distillate is matured for at least twelve years in oak casks, with American oak and ex-bourbon casks in particular playing a central role in Knockdhu’s maturation philosophy. During this long period of ageing, the originally fresh and fruit-forward new make develops into a significantly rounder and more harmonious 12-year-old Highland single malt. Maturation takes place in the distillery’s traditional warehouses, whose solid stone walls ensure comparatively constant conditions. At 40% ABV and in a 0.7-litre bottle, the AnCnoc 12 is a classic, traditionally produced Scotch whisky that offers a particularly accessible introduction to the style of the Knockdhu Distillery.

Tasting Note

Colour: A soft amber with slightly yellowish highlights.

Nose: Smooth and aromatic with honey, fresh lemon, creamy vanilla and delicate citrus notes.

Palate: Pleasantly sweet and fruity with soft vanilla, ripe fruit and harmonious maltiness.

Finish: Long-lasting, smooth and balanced with a delicate fruity sweetness.

The AnCnoc 12 Years Old is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature in a nosing glass, allowing its light and fruity Highland style to unfold particularly clearly. A few drops of still water can further bring out the honey, vanilla and citrus notes. Culinary pairings include mild hard cheeses, smoked salmon or roasted almonds. Lemon cake, apple tart or desserts featuring honey and vanilla also complement the single malt’s fruity-sweet character beautifully.
