It is produced at the renowned Yamazaki Distillery near Kyoto, which was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii and is regarded as Japan’s first malt whisky distillery. The Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve brings together carefully selected malt whiskies from a variety of cask types, including American oak casks, Spanish sherry casks, wine casks and Japanese Mizunara oak. The rare Mizunara oak, in particular, plays a key role in defining the distillery’s characteristic style. Tasting Note

Colour: Warm gold with light amber highlights.

Nose: Fresh strawberries, juicy cherries, delicate floral notes and elegant hints of Japanese Mizunara oak.

Palate: Smooth and harmonious, with fruity raspberries, white peach, a hint of coconut and subtle oak spice.

Finish: Pleasantly long-lasting and elegant, with sweet vanilla, delicate cinnamon and a gentle woody spice.

The Suntory Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve is excellent for enjoying neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass, which brings out its fruity and floral aromas. A few drops of still water can bring out additional nuances from the complex cask maturation. Alternatively, this Japanese single malt whisky can be enjoyed over a large ice cube or as a refreshing Japanese highball with well-chilled Sodawasser. As a culinary accompaniment, mildly matured cheeses, roasted almonds or white chocolate harmonise beautifully with its elegant character.
