The Laphroaig 10 Years Old Sherry Oak Cask Finish 48% vol. 0.7 l is a characterful Islay single malt Scotch whisky that combines the intense peaty smoke of the historic Laphroaig Distillery with the distinctive influence of Spanish sherry casks. Founded in 1815, the distillery is situated on the south coast of the Scottish island of Islay and is renowned for its heavily peated whiskies. This 10-year-old Laphroaig single malt is initially matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and refill Oloroso sherry casks, before undergoing a further finish in Oloroso sherry casks made from European oak. Through this multi-stage cask maturation, the distillery combines its traditional whisky character with a particularly carefully balanced sherry cask finish.


The Laphroaig 10 Years Old Sherry Oak expands the classic ten-year-old expression with a distinctive cask composition. Whilst the bourbon casks form an essential part of the maturation process, the Oloroso sherry casks provide additional depth and complexity. The Laphroaig Distillery draws on its many years of experience in working with heavily peated barley malt and selected oak casks. With a robust 48% ABV, this heavily peated Islay single malt whisky is bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle. The combination of ten years’ maturation, intense peaty smoke and an Oloroso sherry cask finish makes it a special addition to the Laphroaig range.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm amber with golden and coppery highlights.

Nose: Intense peaty smoke and characteristic medicinal notes, accompanied by sweet honey, aromatic cloves and grilled smoked bacon. These are joined by leather, iodine, pine wood and subtle hints of tar.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with waxy notes, sweet caramel and maple syrup, dark chocolate and spicy woody undertones. Fresh pine needles, cedar wood and subtle hints of furniture polish complement the intense smoky aroma.

Finish: Long-lasting, sweet and powerful, with spicy honey, dry peat smoke and Laphroaig’s characteristic medicinal and maritime notes.

The Laphroaig 10 Years Old Sherry Oak Cask Finish reveals its complex aromas particularly well when enjoyed neat at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped nosing glass. A few drops of still water can further highlight the combination of robust peaty smoke, sherry sweetness and spicy oak notes. Recommended food pairings include smoked salmon, grilled scallops, spicy BBQ ribs or strong blue cheese, whose intense flavours harmonise with the smoky whisky. Dark chocolate truffles, roasted walnuts or desserts featuring caramel and honey also complement the rich sherry cask notes.
