Raki, Turkey's renowned national drink, is an indispensable part of Turkish festivities. Whether at a relaxed meal with friends at home, a large celebration or a dinner in a restaurant - raki enriches every social gathering with its characteristic flavour.

This esteemed spirit has a tradition of around 300 years and is made in Anatolia from carefully selected ingredients: Aniseed, pure white granulated sugar and soft spring water. These components give raki its unmistakable aroma and fine flavour.

In the first phase of the distillation process, selected grape varieties from Anatolia are processed. These grapes are harvested when ripe, dried and then fermented. In the subsequent second distillation step, high-quality pimpinella aniseed is added to the resulting suma. This step is crucial for the flavour development, as the aniseed is an excellent complementary component to the aromas of the grapes.

Tasting Note

The flavour of raki depends mainly on the quality of the grapes used and the aniseed. As aniseed dissolves completely in the alcohol, it is invisible in the raki but can still be clearly smelled and tasted. The white turbidity - which has also earned raki the name lion's milk - is created when water is added to raki.
