On the very edge of Scotland’s famous whisky-producing region lies the island of Islay, which is regarded as the birthplace of many legendary whiskies. According to legend, Irish monks introduced the art of distillation here. Whisky production on Islay was originally illegal, but as the laws were relaxed, numerous distilleries sprang up. Among the pioneers were the farmers Donald and Alexander Johnston, who founded the Laphroaig distillery in 1815, which still bears their name today.

Laphroaig’s new 18-year-old whisky marks an important turning point in the distillery’s maturation process. It retains the characteristic bold flavour for which Laphroaig is renowned, whilst adding new, complex dimensions. The entire maturation process takes place in ex-bourbon casks, which makes the vanilla notes – already detectable after 10 years – significantly more intense and pronounced.

This combination of tradition and innovation gives the 18-year-old Laphroaig a unique depth and complexity that is appreciated by whisky connoisseurs worldwide.

Tasting Note

Nose: Sweet, vanilla, toffee, gooseberries, cinnamon, apple pie.

Palate: Oily, sweet, full-bodied, oranges, herbs, honey, ginger.

Finish: Long-lasting.
