Kirk and Sweeney Gran Reserva Superior Dominican Rum is a fine rum that impresses not only with its outstanding quality but also with its historical significance. The rum takes its name from a legendary sailing ship, the Kirk and Sweeney, which served as a rum smuggling vessel between the Caribbean and the north-east of the USA during the early years of Prohibition. The bottle features a graphic illustration of the smuggling routes the ship sailed during this exciting period.

Handcrafted in the Dominican Republic, this rum is made from high-quality sugar cane harvested by hand. The sugar cane is then converted into blackstrap molasses, which is fermented and distilled to achieve a pure and intense flavour.

Ageing in American oak casks imparts a pleasant woody note to the rum and ensures a perfect balance of sweetness, spice and oak. The rum complies with the strict regulations required for recognition as ‘Dominican Rum’, which underlines its authenticity and quality.

Tasting Note

Colour: Deep mahogany with golden highlights.

Nose: Aromas of caramel, vanilla, toasted nuts and a subtle hint of oak, mingling with a light fruity sweetness.

Palate: Full-bodied and smooth with notes of roasted fruit, caramel, honey, a subtle vanilla sweetness and a light oak spiciness.

Finish: Long-lasting, smooth and harmonious with a pleasant woody finish, accompanied by a hint of fruity sweetness.

Kirk and Sweeney Rum Gran Reserva Superior Dominican Rum is excellent enjoyed neat or on the rocks to intensify the flavours. It pairs perfectly with grilled meat, mature cheese or dark chocolate. Alternatively, it is also excellent in cocktails such as a Rum Old Fashioned or a Mai Tai, to stylishly highlight the complex flavours of caramel, vanilla and oak.
