Old Hunter's No. 4 Rye Reserve Whisky is a traditional Czech rye whisky speciality, in which rye forms the characteristic foundation. This bottling forms part of the range from the Czech brand Stará Myslivecká, whose roots are closely linked to the production of rye distillates. For the Old Hunter's Rye Reserve, the distillate is produced according to a time-honoured, closely guarded recipe and then undergoes a production and maturation process lasting a total of four years. Central to this is a special double maturation in selected white oak casks, through which the robust rye character blends harmoniously with the influences of the wood.


The Old Hunter's No. 4 Rye Reserve is bottled at 40% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle. The designation ‘No. 4’ refers to the four-year production process and sets this variant apart within the range. In particular, the combination of rye distillate, a four-year maturation process and double cask maturation in white oak gives this Czech whisky its distinctive character compared to classic American rye whiskies. Old Hunter's thus combines the long tradition of Czech rye spirits with an elaborate cask-maturation process, offering an interesting alternative for lovers of spicy, grain-forward whiskies from European countries of origin.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden amber.

Nose: Pleasantly spicy with notes of rye and warm grains, accompanied by sweet garden fruits and subtle hints of oak.

Palate: Smooth and well-balanced with spicy rye, ripe fruit and a subtle sweetness, complemented by warm cask and wood notes.

Finish: Pleasantly lingering and smooth, with rye spice, subtle fruit sweetness and delicate oak notes.

The Old Hunter's No. 4 Rye Reserve Whisky is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature or on the rocks, to bring out its rye and cask character. Thanks to its spicy profile, it can also be used in classic whisky cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan. Food pairings include smoked meats, strong sausages, mature hard cheeses or roasted nuts. The combination of rye spice, fruit and white oak also provides a fitting contrast to dark chocolate.
