Behind the Nc'nean Distillery is its founder, Annabel Thomas, a pioneer in the world of Scotch whisky. With great passion and perseverance, she realised her dream of a sustainable distillery. The whisky is made exclusively from Scottish, organically grown malted barley, produced using renewable energy and bottled in 100 per cent recycled glass bottles. The name ‘Nc'nean’ is inspired by ‘Neachneohain’, a mystical fairy queen from Gaelic folklore who is regarded as the protector of nature and the wilderness.
Nc'nean Organic Single Malt Whisky is an exceptional Scottish organic whisky that delights with its youthful yet already remarkably complex bouquet. The combination of STR red wine casks (55 per cent), ex-bourbon casks (43 per cent) and a small proportion of Oloroso sherry casks (2 per cent) creates a fascinating depth and harmony. STR stands for ‘shaved, toasted and re-charred’, a special treatment for wine casks that releases intense aromas of red fruits, spices and a subtle woody sweetness.
The Nc'nean Distillery’s nature-centred philosophy is reflected not only in its sustainable production methods but also in the artistically designed bottle, inspired by plant tendrils. No post-treatment is carried out: the colour comes exclusively from the oak casks, and cold filtration is also deliberately avoided. The result is an authentic, unadulterated single malt.
Tasting Note
Colour: Pale gold.
Nose: Delicate aromas of citrus fruits and floral notes, underpinned by a hint of vanilla and honey.
Palate: Smooth and full-bodied with hints of dried fruit, spices and a slight malty sweetness.
Finish: Warm and long-lasting with an elegant, spicy finish.
Nc'nean Organic Single Malt Scotch Whisky is an excellent accompaniment to savoury dishes such as smoked salmon or mature cheese.
