Monkey 47 Black Forest Dry Gin is a premium German dry gin from the Black Forest, whose exceptionally complex recipe features a total of 47 botanicals. Its history is closely linked to the British gentleman Montgomery Collins, who lived in the Black Forest after the Second World War and developed a particular passion for gin and regional botanicals whilst there. This historical inspiration was later drawn upon and became the basis for Monkey 47, whose recipe has been synonymous with an unmistakable style since its launch in 2008. The gin uses both local herbs, berries and spices from the Black Forest as well as selected exotic botanicals. Juniper and lingonberries from the Black Forest play a special role, complemented by numerous citrus, herb, floral and spice components.

Particularly soft spring water from the Black Forest is also used in the production of Monkey 47 Gin. The number 47 refers not only to the exceptionally extensive selection of 47 botanical ingredients, but is also reflected in the robust bottling strength of 47 per cent alcohol by volume. Another distinctive feature is the brown 0.5-litre apothecary bottle, whose design defines the brand’s unique identity. Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Complex and aromatic with juniper, fresh citrus fruits, floral notes and a multifaceted blend of herbs and spices.

Palate: Balanced and smooth, with pronounced juniper, delicately balanced fruit and citrus notes, spicy herbs and a distinct peppery heat.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious with fruity citrus notes, juniper and a subtle, lingering spiciness.

Thanks to its complex botanical profile, Monkey 47 Black Forest Dry Gin is particularly well suited to a classic gin and tonic. To make this, serve 4 to 5 cl of gin with a dry and, if possible, neutral premium tonic water over plenty of ice; a grapefruit or lemon zest is sufficient as a subtle garnish. The numerous herbal, spicy and citrus components also remain clearly discernible in a Dry Martini, Negroni or Gin Fizz. As an accompaniment to food, this gin pairs well with smoked fish, seafood, mild goat’s cheese or light dishes featuring herbs and citrus fruits.
