Description
Hunter Laing Kill Devil Trinidad Caroni 20-Year-Old Single Cask Rum 1998 46% vol. 0.7 l in a gift box online kaufen
The Hunter Laing Kill Devil Trinidad Caroni 20 Years Old 1998 is an exceptionally rare single cask rum from Trinidad, originating from the legendary and now-closed Caroni Distillery. This rum was distilled in 1998 from molasses, before maturing for a total of 20 years. The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 and, thanks in particular to its robust, characterful spirits, became a cult favourite amongst rum connoisseurs. Following the distillery’s closure in 2003, the remaining matured stocks have become increasingly rare. This single cask was selected for the Kill Devil range by the independent Scottish bottler Hunter Laing and bottled in 2018 at 46% ABV.
Particularly noteworthy is the extremely limited production run of the Caroni 1998 Kill Devil 20 Years Old: just 246 bottles were bottled from the selected single cask. The bottling contains no added sugar or flavourings, ensuring that the original character of the long-matured Caroni distillate remains the focus. The Kill Devil series was launched by Edition Spirits, a division of Hunter Laing, to independently bottle selected single-cask rums from various origins. With 20 years’ maturation, a 1998 vintage, single-cask character and a run of just 246 bottles, this bottling now enjoys a distinct status as a rarity and collector’s item. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a matching gift box.
Tasting Note
Colour: Dark amber with mahogany-coloured highlights.
Nose: Intense and multi-layered, with dark caramel, ripe fruit and spicy notes, accompanied by the characteristically robust, slightly smoky Caroni aromas.
Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with dark fruit, toffee and pronounced spiciness, as well as distinctive roasted, woody and slightly smoky notes.
Finish: Long-lasting, darkly spicy and intense, with oak, spices and the characteristic heavy Caroni nuances.
The Hunter Laing Kill Devil Caroni 20 Years Old 1998 is best enjoyed neat at around 18–20 °C in a nosing glass. Given its robust character, dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, roasted nuts or a strong, mature cheese make for subtle accompaniments. A few drops of still water can be added to reveal further facets of this 20-year-old distillate. Given that it is limited to just 246 bottles and originates from the now-closed Caroni Distillery, this bottling is particularly suited to special occasions and discerning rum collections.
