The Hunter Laing Scarabus Islay Single Malt Batch Strength is a more intense, even more powerful version of the popular Scarabus Islay Single Malt, bottled at a higher alcohol strength of 57 % vol. The name ‘Scarabus’ refers to an area on the island of Islay known as a ‘rocky place’ and reflects the rugged, wild character of this whisky. The designs on the bottle were inspired by John Francis Campbell, a Scottish scholar and author who documented Scotland’s rich history and culture.

Only selected Scarabus Islay Single Malt casks are used for the Scarabus Batch Strength, ensuring greater intensity and depth. Despite the higher alcohol content, the typical sweet, peaty character of Scarabus is preserved, making the whisky both full-bodied and complex. The finish is enhanced by added body and a longer-lasting aftertaste.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark gold with amber hues.

Nose: Intense peaty smoke with sweet aromas of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and a subtle, smoky oak note.

Palate: Full-bodied and powerful with pronounced notes of sweet peat, smoke, spices, dried fruit and a hint of vanilla sweetness.

Finish: Long-lasting, warm and complex with a distinctive smoky note and a spicy finish that lingers gently.

The Scarabus Islay Single Malt Batch Strength is ideal for drinking neat, to experience its powerful aromas and complexity. It pairs superbly with smoked cheese, grilled meat or steak, as well as caramelised nuts. Alternatively, it can be used in a Rob Roy or a Whisky Sour to stylishly showcase its intense, smoky flavours in a cocktail.
