Description
Bozal Single Maguey CUISHE Mezcal Artesanal 47% vol. 0.7 l online kaufen
The Bozal Single Maguey Cuishe Mezcal Artesanal is one of the most distinctive wild agave mezcals from Oaxaca and is made exclusively from the rare Cuishe agave, a subspecies of the Karwinskii family. This agave is instantly recognisable by its distinctive, vertically growing stem: it forms a long, slender body with a crown of leaves at the top and takes around twelve years to reach full maturity. Due to this unusual shape, the stem contains particularly firm, structured piña material, which makes harvesting and processing significantly more challenging. The result is a uniquely aromatic single maguey mezcal, whose profile is characterised by tropical, floral and, at the same time, mineral notes.
This mezcal is produced using strictly traditional, artisanal methods: the agave hearts are cooked in earthen pit ovens, ground using a donkey-drawn tahona, and then fermented in open vats with naturally occurring yeast. Double distillation preserves the unadulterated character of the Cuishe agave. The iconic Bozal ceramic bottle in deep blue reflects the single-maguey philosophy and provides a tactile link to the artisanal production process. The name Bozal, which means ‘wild’ or ‘untamed’, pays tribute to the traditional production methods of the mezcaleros from the remote regions of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango.
Tasting Note
Colour: Clear.
Nose: Intense citrus notes, burnt orange, honeycomb, floral herbs.
Palate: Raw honey and jalapeño heat, accompanied by mineral notes.
Finish: Smoky, mineral, with a hint of wet stones; long-lasting and complex.
This Cuishe Mezcal Artesanal pairs superbly with grilled octopus, tuna tataki, grilled chillies, maize tamales or mushroom quesadillas, which highlight its mineral and citrus-driven profile. Sweet combinations such as honey flan, roasted orange, coconut rice or mango with chilli harmonise perfectly with its spicy and tropical flavours. In cocktails, it lends itself to sophisticated variations such as the Smoky Cuishe Sour, Mezcal Negroni or served neat from a copita, where its edgy, wild character comes into its own.
