The origins of the brand

The name ‘Bozal’ means ‘wild’ or ‘untamed’ in Spanish – and that is exactly what this mezcal embodies. Bozal was founded to preserve the ancient tradition of mezcal production whilst making rare agave varieties available in limited editions.

The philosophy behind Bozal Mezcal

Bozal stands for sustainability, tradition and authenticity. The agaves grow in remote mountainous regions and are processed in small, family-run distilleries using centuries-old methods. Every bottle tells the story of craftsmanship and Mexican culture.

Harvesting & Selection of Agaves

Bozal uses both cultivated and wild agave varieties. The wild agaves take up to 20 years to mature and give the mezcal exceptional flavour profiles.

Traditional production

After harvesting, the agave hearts are slowly roasted in earth ovens to develop their characteristic smokiness. Fermentation then takes place in wooden barrels using natural yeasts.

Distillation in clay and copper stills

Bozal Mezcal is distilled in small batches using traditional methods. The use of clay stills ensures a particularly smooth and earthy aroma.

Bozal Espadín-Barril-Mexicano

This blend combines three varieties of agave: Espadín (for balance), Barril (for a hint of smokiness) and Mexicano (for spicy complexity). The result is a full-bodied, multi-layered mezcal with smoky and earthy notes.

Bozal Tobasiche

This mezcal is made from the rare Tobasiche agave and offers a soft, floral aroma with hints of vanilla and tropical fruits. Perfect for lovers of smooth, elegant mezcals.

Bozal Cuishe

The Cuishe agave grows in stony, dry soils and produces a robust, mineral-rich mezcal with peppery and grassy aromas. Ideal for connoisseurs who appreciate intense flavour profiles.
