The Shin Blended Whisky is produced in Niigata, a major Japanese port city situated at the mouth of the Shinano River. Niigata is renowned for its three ‘white treasures’ – snow, rice and sake – and is a centre for traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The name ‘Shin’ stands for integrity, a principle deeply rooted in the Samurai ethos and which forms the basis of this whisky.

This whisky is crafted from a careful selection of malt and grain whiskies, which are matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Under the guidance of Master Distiller Ken Usami, the whiskies are blended in a special cask made from Mizunara oak, a Japanese oak species that imparts a distinctive woody complexity and spicy aromas to the whisky. The whisky is bottled without any artificial colourings, which emphasises its natural purity and authentic quality.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold with warm, reddish highlights.

Nose: Complex aromas of fresh citrus fruits, spiced oak, cinnamon and a hint of dried berries. The Mizunara oak contributes subtle notes of coconut and spiced herbs.

Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious, with a balance of fruity notes of plum, cherry and pear, combined with the warm, spicy character of Mizunara oak.

Finish: Long and pleasant, with a softer oak structure, hints of caramel and a slightly sweet, spicy finish.

The Shin Blended Whisky is ideal for enjoying neat or with a drop of water to intensify the complexity of the flavours. It also reveals its multi-layered flavours perfectly when used as a base for whisky cocktails such as a Whisky Sour or an Old Fashioned. This whisky pairs particularly well with mature cheese, smoked salmon or a fruity dessert such as tarte Tatin, which brings out its woody and fruity notes to perfection.
