Ilegal Mezcal Añejo Special Edition is a long-aged bottling from Oaxaca, Mexico, and epitomises the artisanal quality and authenticity for which Ilegal Mezcal is renowned worldwide. With an alcohol content of 40 % vol. and bottled in a stylish 0.7-litre bottle, this Añejo release is aimed at connoisseurs who appreciate mezcal with a complex cask profile and elegant maturity.

This mezcal is made from 100 per cent Espadín agave, processed using traditional methods: the agave hearts (piñas) are roasted over a wood fire in earth pits, then ground, fermented and double-distilled. This is followed by at least 13 months’ barrel ageing in new and used American oak casks, during which the mezcal develops soft notes of vanilla, caramel and smoke that are perfectly balanced.

The Special Edition Añejo is an expression of depth, warmth and artisanal sophistication. Ilegal Mezcal was originally smuggled into Guatemala for a bar – today, the brand is a global symbol of high-quality, sustainably produced mezcal with a rebellious character.
