Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is an outstanding single malt whisky that captures the authentic essence of the Scottish island of Islay. Produced by the renowned Bruichladdich Distillery, this whisky reflects a deep connection to the island and its agricultural traditions. It was distilled exclusively from barley sourced from eight local farms – including Cruach, Craigens, Island, Dunlossit, Coull, Rockside, Sunderland and Mulindry Farms. All these farms are situated within a 15-mile radius of the distillery, underlining the importance of regionality and terroir. The barley was harvested in 2013 and distilled in 2014 to bring out the region’s natural flavours to the full.

The seven-year maturation took place in a precisely balanced combination of high-quality casks, which lend the whisky its remarkable complexity and depth:

- 84 per cent in first-fill bourbon casks – for sweet notes of vanilla, caramel and honey.

- 8 per cent in second-fill virgin oak casks – for a distinctive spiciness and robust oak nuances.

- 8 per cent in second-fill Bordeaux wine casks – for delicate fruity notes and an elegant structure.

This unique combination of casks ensures a perfect balance between smoky intensity, sweet malty notes and fruity elegance, making Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 an exceptional example of a heavily peated whisky.

Tasting Note

Colour: Bright gold with warm highlights.​

Nose: A seductive interplay of malty biscuit notes and gentle peat smoke, complemented by sweet vanilla, honey, toffee and a hint of crème brûlée.​

Palate: A fascinating interplay of citrus flavours, harmoniously balanced with gentle peat smoke, followed by notes of apricot, peach and ripe melon.​

Finish: A wonderfully balanced finish with hints of stone fruit and toasted oak, accompanied by a lingering touch of Port Charlotte’s characteristic barbecue smoke.
