Founded in 1833 by Vincenzo Florio, the winery is one of the leading producers of Marsala DOC and has shaped the history of this famous Italian fortified wine for almost two centuries. Situated directly on the coast of western Sicily, the vineyards benefit from the salty sea breezes that lend the grapes their distinctive character.


The Vecchioflorio Marsala Superiore Sweet 2020 is based on the indigenous Grillo grape variety, which is considered the heart of traditional Marsala production. Following careful vinification, the wine is fortified by the addition of alcohol – a crucial step regarded as the very birth of Marsala. The wine is then aged in Florio’s impressive cellars, where hundreds of oak casks mature under the influence of time, oxygen and the unique microclimate of the historic tuff stone buildings. This traditional ageing process lends Marsala its characteristic depth, complexity and elegance. With an alcohol content of 18% vol., this sweet Marsala from Sicily is harmonious, multi-layered and authentic, and is equally suited as a wine for contemplation or as a versatile accompaniment to sophisticated moments of indulgence.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Vecchioflorio Marsala Superiore Sweet 2020 displays a warm amber colour with golden highlights. On the nose, aromas of dried fruit, raisins, dates and figs unfold, accompanied by subtle notes of vanilla, caramel and toasted nuts. On the palate, the Marsala is soft, full-bodied and harmonious, with sweet fruit notes, subtle hints of spice and an elegant balance between sweetness and freshness. Subtle maritime nuances and salty accents lend additional complexity. The finish is long-lasting, warm and multi-layered.
