Etsu Japanese Handcrafted Gin The Original is a Japanese gin that combines Japan’s rich botanical heritage with a modern gin style. The name ‘Etsu’ can be translated as ‘pleasure’ or ‘enjoyment’ and emphasises the brand’s Japanese heritage. Selected botanicals are used in its production, with yuzu – a citrus fruit highly prized in Japan – in particular shaping the recipe’s distinctive character. This is complemented by, amongst other things, juniper, spices and other botanical ingredients, which are blended to create a well-balanced overall profile. A distinctive feature is the use of water from the mountains of Hokkaido, which is added after distillation to adjust the alcohol content.

With an alcohol content of 43 per cent, Etsu Gin The Original Japanese Gin has sufficient body to allow its botanicals to shine, both when enjoyed neat and in classic gin drinks. The production process focuses on the careful processing of the botanical ingredients and particularly emphasises the combination of Japanese yuzu and classic juniper. This sets Etsu Gin clearly apart from traditionally European-style gins and positions it as a Japanese handcrafted gin with a distinct Japanese identity. Etsu Japanese Handcrafted Gin The Original is ideal for a gin and tonic with a tonic water that is as neutral or dry as possible, so that the yuzu and juniper notes are preserved. Suitable garnishes include yuzu zest, lemon zest or a thin slice of ginger, without overpowering the gin’s flavour. It also provides a versatile base for a gin highball, Martini or gin sour. Culinary pairings include sushi, sashimi, light fish dishes or tempura, and it is particularly well-suited as an aperitif.
