The Gérard Bertrand La Forge 2021 is an impressive cuvée that epitomises the centuries-old winemaking tradition of the Corbières region in the south of France. This exceptional red wine is made from carefully selected Carignan and Syrah vines, some of which are an impressive 80 years old. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand in order to keep them in the best possible condition and guarantee exceptional quality. After the harvest, part of the grapes are matured in 225-litre French oak Bordeaux barrels, while the other part matures in stainless steel tanks to achieve an optimal balance between fruit and structure.

The history of this wine is closely linked to the passion and craftsmanship of Gérard Bertrand. He began harvesting grapes at Château de Villemajou in the Corbières back in 1975 and developed a deep attachment to winemaking under the guidance of his father Georges Bertrand. After his father's sudden death in 1987, Gérard Bertrand took over the management of the family winery and expanded his company into the renowned Gérard Bertrand Group. Today, his estate comprises 16 vineyards and châteaux along the Mediterranean coast of France, totalling 850 hectares of first-class vineyards.

La Forge 2021 is a limited edition wine, of which only 18,787 bottles were bottled - a real collector's item for lovers of fine red wines.

Tasting Note

This exclusive red wine has a deep garnet red colour with violet reflections in the glass. The bouquet is intense and multi-layered, with notes of ripe black fruits such as blackberries and cherries, complemented by hints of liquorice, black pepper and fine roasted aromas of vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, it impresses with an elegant tannin structure, velvety fullness and a wonderful harmony between fruit, spice and fine wood notes. The long, complex finish leaves behind nuances of dark chocolate, roasted coffee and Mediterranean herbs.

The Gérard Bertrand La Forge 2021 is an excellent accompaniment to savoury dishes such as braised lamb, game ragout or grilled entrecôte. It also harmonises wonderfully with mature hard cheeses such as Comté or Manchego. Served at an optimum drinking temperature of 16-18 °C, it unfolds its full spectrum of flavours and offers an exquisite moment of pleasure for special occasions.
