Description
Description
The Weingut Erwin Sabathi, founded in Leutschach an der Weinstraße in the lush countryside of Styria, Austria, experienced a significant upswing in 1992 when Erwin Sabathi, a tenth-generation descendant, joined his parents’ business. Building on this foundation, he independently established the now renowned ‘Erwin Sabathi’ brand.
The winery’s coat of arms is characterised by rich symbolism, embedded in a design featuring black and gold Elements. Divided by a golden crosshair, the first field depicts an oak branch with three leaves and three acorns; the second, a vine with a bunch of grapes and a leaf; the third, two swords crossed diagonally; and the fourth, a brown trout – all in gold. Above this coat of arms stands a helmet with black and gold plumes, topped by a black cushion fringed in gold, upon which two golden lions hold a silver shell. These elements symbolise durability and value.
Erwin Sabathi Sauvignon Blanc Leutschach is made exclusively from hand-picked Sauvignon Blanc grapes, which are fermented with natural yeasts and aged for 14 months in traditional oak barrels. As an organic product, the wine has a drinking window of up to 5 years and is fitted with a screw cap.
As an expression of its terroir, the Sauvignon Blanc Leutschach reflects the characteristic features of its home, Leutschach an der Weinstraße. The warm climate with moderate rainfall and the cool winds from the Koralpe create significant temperature differences between day and night, ideal for the development of fruit-driven aromas.
Geologically, Leutschach is situated in an area characterised by extensive marine deposits from the south-western Styrian marine basin. These conditions play a decisive role in shaping the unique character of the Sauvignon Blanc from this region.
Tasting Note
A pale straw-yellow colour in the glass. On the nose, notes of ripe wild berries, Alpine herbs and hop flowers. On the palate, it is fruity with hints of gooseberries, mineral, with a distinctive acidity and a lively freshness. A long-lasting finish.
Residual sugar: 1.3 g/l
Acidity: 5.3 g/l
It is particularly recommended with fresh goat’s cheese and tomatoes, asparagus salad, Mediterranean dishes, pasta with seafood, freshwater fish, white meat and poultry.
