The Gérard Bertrand Cigalus IGP 2022 is a powerful, expressive red wine from the south of France that impressively embodies Gérard Bertrand’s philosophy: biodynamic viticulture of the highest standard, combined with character, elegance and richness. This iconic wine from the Languedoc – more specifically from the IGP Aude Hauterive – is one of the estate’s flagship wines and is produced at the Domaine de Cigalus, which has been consistently managed using biodynamic methods for many years.

The cuvée combines international and regional grape varieties in perfect balance – typically Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre and Caladoc – all of which are vinified separately and then masterfully blended. Ageing takes place partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in new barriques, allowing power, density and elegant oak aromas to blend harmoniously. The 2022 vintage is particularly sun-kissed, ripe and structured, with great concentration and impressive aromatic depth.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Cigalus displays a deep, dark purplish-red colour with violet highlights. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and cherries, accompanied by notes of roasted coffee, liquorice, vanilla and oriental spices. On the palate, it is powerful, full-bodied and silky, with polished tannins, dense fruit and a long, harmonious finish. A wine with opulence and structure that nevertheless retains its freshness.

Serving temperature: 16 °C

An ideal accompaniment to rack of lamb, braised beef, game birds, mature hard cheese or mushroom dishes with truffle oil. Even when enjoyed on its own, it develops its full depth and aromatic complexity in a large glass.
