Description
The Gesellmann Opus Eximium No. 35 2022 is a fine red wine cuvée from Central Burgenland that impressively reflects the masterful craftsmanship of the Gesellmann family. For generations, the Gesellmann winery has stood for the highest quality, deeply rooted tradition and the uncompromising demand to vinify red wines with a strong character and great ageing potential.
The cuvée is made up of 60% Blaufränkisch, 30% Zweigelt and 10% St. Laurent. The grapes come from 30 to 70-year-old vines and were carefully harvested by hand. The harvest began at the end of September with St. Laurent, followed by Zweigelt, and ended at the beginning of October with the Blaufränkisch. Each variety was vinified separately. The traditional mash fermentation took place in steel tanks, with daily immersion of the mash cap (two to four times a day). After spontaneous fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. It then matured for 24 months in small oak barrels and spent a further two months in large wooden barrels after the final marrying. This elaborate vinification process ensures depth, balance and an exceptional spectrum of flavours.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Gesellmann Opus Eximium No. 35 2022 is a deep, dark ruby-garnet colour with violet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of fresh blackberry confit, delicate herbal notes and elegant precious wood spice, giving the bouquet a complex and multi-layered appearance. On the palate, it is juicy, fresh and harmonious with nuances of red berries, lively acidity and finely integrated tannins. The finish is elegant, balanced and persistent - a wine that impresses with both finesse and structure.

The Gesellmann Opus Eximium No. 35 2022 is a versatile accompaniment to full-flavoured dishes and should be served at a temperature of 16-18 °C. It is an excellent accompaniment to dark meat such as beef or lamb, braised game or savoury roast dishes. It also unfolds its full expressive power with autumnal compositions with mushrooms, strong braised dishes or fine cheeses. With its ageing potential of several years, it is not only a pleasure in the here and now, but also a worthwhile investment for the wine cellar.
