Description
Description
The Gérard Bertrand An 940 Chardonnay 2024 is a fine French white wine from the Languedoc, whose name pays historical homage. The earliest traces of the Langue d’Oc can be found as early as the year 940 in literary texts such as the poem *La passion de Clermont*. It later developed into the Occitan language, a language of great cultural significance which was spread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages by the troubadour movement. This cultural richness is also reflected in the winemaking tradition of the Languedoc, which is continued today by Gérard Bertrand using modern and sustainable methods.
The grapes for this Chardonnay are harvested at night to preserve their freshness. Following gentle pressing in a pneumatic press, cold static pre-settling takes place. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks; part of the must is aged in barriques to develop additional complexity. Malolactic fermentation is deliberately avoided to preserve the wine’s liveliness and freshness. After light fining, the wine is bottled. With an alcohol content of 13.5% vol., the An 940 Chardonnay combines freshness, elegance and finesse, and is an impressive expression of the modern Languedoc.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Gérard Bertrand An 940 Chardonnay 2024 glows with a radiant golden hue. On the nose, delicate aromas of vanilla, fresh butter and toasted bread unfold, accompanied by ripe peaches. On the palate, it reveals a creamy, velvety texture with elegant notes of toasted almonds and crème brûlée, perfectly balanced by a subtle acidity. The long, lingering finish underscores its elegance and makes it an ideal wine for lovers of complex, well-balanced Chardonnays.
This Languedoc Chardonnay pairs superbly with fine fish dishes, lobster, scallops or creamy poultry dishes. It also reveals its full character when paired with pasta in creamy sauces, risotto or mild cheeses. Served at 10–12 °C, it is the ideal accompaniment to festive meals or special occasions.
