The Dellavalle Gran Liquore G. Gerbi L’Amaro del Diavolo Rosso is a traditional amaro that has been brought back to life thanks to a historical discovery. An old bottle, still containing the original, characteristically red liqueur, inspired the Davide Barbero company – heirs to the legendary ‘Diavolo Rosso’ – to reissue this special Amaro in collaboration with Distilleria Dellavalle. This reinterpretation is intended as a tribute to Giovanni Gerbi, born in Asti in 1885, a cyclist with an unmistakable fighting spirit and an iconic red racing jersey. His nickname ‘Diavolo Rosso’ stems from an anecdote in which, whilst wearing his red kit, he rode into a procession during a race and a startled priest exclaimed: ‘Chiellì a l’è al diau’. This sporting legacy lives on in this distinctive liqueur, which combines historical roots with the Italian herbal tradition.


Amaro del Diavolo Rosso is produced through the cold maceration and infusion of selected botanical ingredients: gentian, cardamom, yarrow, rhubarb, sweet wormwood, sweet orange peel and Amarena cherries. This combination gives the herbal liqueur its aromatic depth, its bittersweet flavour and its striking red colour. Bottled at 25 per cent by volume, this Amaro has a balanced, natural structure and is ideal for classic aperitifs, modern cocktail creations or simply enjoyed neat. It combines the unmistakable signature of Distilleria Dellavalle with a vibrant piece of Piedmontese sporting history.

This Amaro del Diavolo Rosso is ideal as a digestif following hearty Italian dishes such as risotto, ossobuco or antipasti platters. In cocktails, it harmonises superbly with vermouth, gin or bitter liqueurs and is perfect for modern interpretations such as an Amaro Spritz, Negroni variations or a ‘Red Devil Highball’ with soda and orange zest. It also reveals its aromatic depth particularly effectively when paired with chocolate, candied fruit or an espresso.
