The Koval Wheat Single Barrel Whisky, 55% ABV, 0.5 l, is an outstanding example of modern American whisky-making from the Koval Distillery in Chicago. This independent craft distillery was founded in 2008 and is now regarded as a pioneer in the field of organically produced whiskies. Only wheat is used for this exceptional single barrel – a grain that is rather rare in whisky production, resulting in a particularly smooth, almost creamy character.


As with all Koval products, the raw materials are 100 per cent organically grown. Distillation takes place in small batches, with only the so-called ‘heart cut’ – that is, the purest and highest-quality part of the distillate – being used in further processing. The water used comes from Lake Michigan and is filtered through charcoal before processing to guarantee absolute purity. The whisky is then matured for around four years in newly charred oak casks from Minnesota, which gives it a pleasant depth and spiciness.


As the name suggests, every bottling of Koval Wheat Single Barrel comes from a single cask, giving each bottle its own individual, distinctive character. It is neither coloured nor filtered, to preserve its pure, authentic flavour.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Fresh notes of vanilla, banana and sweet cereal.

Palate: Smooth, creamy and well-rounded with hints of caramel, banana, butter biscuit and a touch of honey.

Finish: Long, slightly spicy and elegantly sweet with a subtle hint of wood.

Koval Wheat Single Barrel Whisky reveals its complex bouquet best when enjoyed neat or with a drop of water at room temperature. It pairs superbly with mild cigars, creamy desserts such as crème brûlée or banoffee pie, and harmonises just as well with nuts or dark chocolate.
