Description
The Gérard Bertrand Clos d'Ora 2018 with 15.5% vol. in a 0.75-litre bottle is one of the most prestigious wines in the Languedoc and represents Gérard Bertrand's absolute top project. The biodynamically cultivated plots are located in La Livinière, one of the highest quality sites in the Minervois, characterised by limestone, marl and sandy-clay soils. The wine is made from a carefully composed cuvée of the finest Mediterranean grape varieties, typically Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre, which are used in an ideal balance depending on the vintage. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, followed by strict selection, separate vinification and a long ageing period in high-quality barriques.
The 2018 vintage is powerful, deep and structured, characterised by the intense sunshine of the Languedoc and the delicate vinification in the Clos d'Ora. The long maturation period gives the wine enormous depth, dark fruit flavours, precise tannins and impressive complexity. The combination of biodynamic viticulture, terroir diversity and artisanal precision makes Clos d'Ora a rare, collectable top wine of exceptional presence and long-lasting elegance.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the wine appears a deep, almost opaque purple-red colour. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of black cherries, blackberries, Mediterranean herbs, liquorice, violets, dark chocolate and the finest roasted notes. On the palate, the Clos d'Ora 2018 is powerful, dense and velvety, characterised by ripe dark fruit, complex spice and a precise tannin structure. The texture is full-bodied and multi-layered, the finish is extremely elegant, mineral and long-lasting, accompanied by finely ripe fruit and spicy depth.
This great Languedoc wine is ideal with braised lamb, game dishes, braised beef cheeks, saddle of venison, entrecôte, strong Mediterranean herb dishes as well as truffle and mushroom compositions. It also shows its class with mature hard cheeses, dark ragouts or fine meat variations of the festive menu. Served at 16-18 °C, the Clos d'Ora reveals its full depth and presents itself as a majestic, complex red wine with long-lasting expressiveness.
