The Montes Merlot Reserva 2023 comes from Chile’s Valle Central, a region with ideal climatic conditions and deep, sandy soils in which the vines put down deep roots, allowing the fruit to develop its full character. This cuvée is made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes of which are taken straight to the winery after harvest, sorted and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in small wooden barrels at controlled temperatures, before the wine matures on its fine lees for several months. This combination of traditional vinification and carefully calibrated use of oak forms the basis for the powerful, structured style for which the Montes winery is renowned. Tasting Note

Deep, dark purple in the glass. On the nose, wild berry jam, plum jam and blueberries, complemented by subtle balsamic notes from barrel ageing. On the palate, it is aromatic, fruit-driven and well-balanced with a dense texture. The finish is remarkable, clearly structured and long-lasting, underpinned by subtle mineral hints.

This Merlot Reserva from the Valle Central pairs superbly with pan-fried veal liver served with apples, onions and a balsamic vinegar sauce.
