The Hunter Laing SCARABUS 15 Years Old Islay Single Malt 46% vol. 0.7 l is a characterful Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which, as a 2026 Limited Edition, impressively captures the rugged, maritime spirit of the island of Islay. Bottled by the independent bottler Hunter Laing, the Scarabus brand stands for mysterious origins, traditional craftsmanship and an authentic take on the classic Islay whisky style. The name ‘Scarabus’ originates from Old Norse and roughly translates as ‘rocky place’, which aptly reflects the wild landscape and character of this whisky.


This 15-year-old single malt whisky is matured in selected ex-bourbon casks, resulting in a clear, structured bouquet. The focus is on the combination of maritime peat smoke, salty notes and a delicate sweetness, which gains additional depth through the long maturation. Bottled at 46 per cent, without chill filtration or colouring, the original character of this Islay single malt is fully preserved. The combination of smoke, sea breeze, caramel and citrus makes this bottling a multi-layered experience with a long-lasting finish.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold to pale amber.

Nose: Maritime peat smoke, sea salt, oak, citrus, a hint of sweetness.

Palate: Full-bodied and well-balanced, smoke, caramel, honeyed pear, orange peel, subtle woody notes.

Finish: Long-lasting, smooth, maritime, slightly salty and smoky.

The Scarabus 15 Years Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is excellent when enjoyed neat, ideally at room temperature or with a small drop of water, which allows the maritime and smoky aromas to unfold to their fullest. Culinary pairings: this peated Islay whisky harmonises particularly well with seafood, oysters, smoked fish, BBQ dishes or strong cheeses. This Islay whisky also pairs superbly with dark chocolate, citrus desserts or nutty biscuits, complementing the dishes with its intense, salty and smoky character.
