Description
The Marchesi Antinori Tignanello IGT 2023, 14.5% ABV, in a 1.5-litre magnum bottle presented in a wooden case, is one of Italy’s most significant and influential red wines and is regarded as an icon of the modern Italian wine world. Produced at the famous Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Tignanello in the heart of Chianti Classico, this legendary wine made history. Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, one of the first Super Tuscans to incorporate international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, and one of the region’s first high-quality red wines to deliberately forgo the traditional addition of white grape varieties.
The approximately 165 hectares of vineyards at Tenuta Tignanello lie between the Greve and Pesa valleys at altitudes characterised by limestone- and slate-rich soils composed of Alberese and Galestro rock. Warm days and cool nights create ideal conditions for the ripening of the grapes. The Tignanello 2023 is produced from a careful selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This exceptional cuvée combines the elegance and freshness of Sangiovese with the structure and depth of the two Cabernet varieties. Ageing in barriques lends the wine additional complexity and finesse.
The iconic label was designed in 1974 by the renowned designer Silvio Coppola. The stylised sun, the historic Antinori family coat of arms and Niccolò Antinori’s signature make every bottle a symbol of Italian wine culture. The elegant 1.5-litre magnum bottle in a wooden case emphasises the exclusive character of this Super Tuscan, making it a sought-after collector’s item and gift with excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Marchesi Antinori Tignanello 2023 displays a deep ruby red colour with garnet-red highlights. On the nose, complex aromas of ripe black cherries, blackberries and plums unfold, accompanied by subtle notes of tobacco, cedarwood, spices, dark chocolate and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, this blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is both powerful and elegant, with dense fruit, precise structure, fine-grained tannins and impressive depth. The finish is multi-layered, mineral and exceptionally long-lasting.
The Marchesi Antinori Tignanello IGT 2023 pairs superbly with beef fillet, Florentine steak, rack of lamb or game dishes. This premium red wine from Tuscany is also an excellent match for truffle dishes, braised veal or mature hard cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano. Served at 16–18 °C, this legendary Super Tuscan reveals its full complexity and elegance. Thanks to its enormous ageing potential, the magnum bottle in a wooden case is ideal for both special occasions and long-term cellaring, and ranks among the great classics of the international wine world.
