Hennessy X.X.O Cognac Hors d’Âge is one of the most time-honoured prestige blends from the House of Hennessy in Cognac, France. Its origins date back to 1870, when Master Blender Émile Fillioux, whilst developing the Hennessy X.O, set aside selected eaux-de-vie with exceptional ageing potential. The resulting X.X.O blend was made available internationally as early as 1871. More than a century later, Yann Fillioux, the seventh-generation Master Blender of the Fillioux family, revived this historic concept and created the Hennessy X.X.O in its current form in 2018. As such, this bottling combines the house’s long history with the knowledge, passed down through generations, of selecting, ageing and blending high-quality Cognac eaux-de-vie.

A defining feature of Hennessy X.X.O Hors d’Âge is the interplay between a powerful structure, exceptional finesse and a particularly long-lasting finish. The carefully crafted cognac cuvée displays a broad aromatic spectrum, ranging from herbal and spicy notes to bitter orange, nutmeg and liquorice. This prestige cognac from Hennessy is bottled at 40% ABV in a generous 1-litre bottle. The designation X.X.O, which stands for ‘Extra Extra Old’, emphasises its position within the category of particularly long-aged cognacs. The Hennessy X.X.O Cognac 40% 1 l thus combines historic roots dating back to the 19th century, many years of cask ageing and the Hennessy house’s time-honoured art of blending to create an exclusive bottling for discerning cognac collections.

Tasting Note

Colour: Bright amber with warm, intense highlights.

Nose: Rich and expressive, with notes of bitter orange, freshly grated nutmeg, liquorice and dried peppermint, accompanied by subtle spices and herbal nuances.

Palate: Powerful and structured, yet exceptionally refined and balanced, with multi-layered spicy, herbal and subtly fruity notes.

Finish: Very long-lasting and elegant with pronounced persistence, delicate spice and complex, slowly fading nuances.

Hennessy X.X.O reveals its complex character best when enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C in a suitable cognac or tumbler glass. A serving of around 4 cl allows you to follow the development of the aromas over a longer period. It pairs well with high-quality dark chocolate, roasted hazelnuts or walnuts, and mature hard cheese, without overpowering the cognac’s delicate nuances. Owing to its historical significance and the meticulous blending process, the X.X.O is particularly well-suited to special occasions and to a leisurely, extended cognac tasting.
