The Macallan 12 Years Old Sherry Oak Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the classic expressions from the historic Macallan Distillery in Speyside. This single malt is matured for at least 12 years on The Macallan Estate and forms part of the Sherry Oak Collection, whose character is largely shaped by European oak casks previously filled with sherry. These carefully selected casks lend the whisky its characteristic blend of dried fruit, ginger, spices and oak. As the whisky matures, both the fruity notes and the typical woody spice intensify. Another distinctive feature is its entirely natural colour, which develops solely during the long period of cask maturation and requires no additional colouring agents.

The Macallan 12 Years Sherry Oak is bottled at 40% alcohol by volume in a 0.7-litre bottle. Its combination of European oak and sherry cask maturation epitomises one of The Macallan’s most famous styles, blending raisins, sultanas and candied citrus peel with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and a subtle hint of vanilla. The current design of the Macallan Sherry Oak Collection also highlights the significance of the casks: in his design, the renowned designer David Carson reinterprets the journey and craftsmanship associated with sherry casks. Tasting Note

Colour: Natural, warm mahogany with golden highlights.

Nose: Rich, with dried fruit, candied citrus peel and oak, accompanied by ginger, nutmeg and subtle spice.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex with raisins and sultanas, followed by ginger syrup, sweet cinnamon spice, oak and a subtle hint of vanilla.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming with oak, spicy ginger and slowly fading notes of dried fruit.

The Macallan 12 Years Old Sherry Oak Cask is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C, although a few drops of still water can further bring out the dried fruit and spice notes. Mature hard cheese, walnuts and roasted almonds pair well with the pronounced sherry cask and oak structure. Dark chocolate and desserts featuring raisins, orange, cinnamon or ginger also complement key elements of the whisky.
