Clément Rhum Vieux Agricole V.O. Martinique is a matured Rhum Agricole from Martinique, which combines traditional production from fresh sugar cane juice with several years’ cask ageing. It is produced at the historic Habitation Clément, whose history dates back to 1887 and which is closely linked to the development of Rhum Agricole in Martinique. Unlike molasses-based rum, Rhum Agricole is produced directly from fermented sugarcane juice, which better preserves the original character of the sugarcane. After distillation, Clément Rhum Vieux Agricole V.O. is given sufficient time in wooden casks to blend the fresh, vegetal components of the distillate with matured notes of wood, spices and fruit.

The designation V.O. – Very Old – denotes a matured Rhum Agricole that has been aged for at least three years in oak casks. Clément V.O. is bottled at 40% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle and combines the typical sugarcane aromas of Martinique with an approachable oak-aged character. As a Rhum Vieux Agricole from Martinique, it represents a category of spirits whose origin and production are closely linked to the French Caribbean island. The combination of fresh sugarcane juice, traditional distillation and oak cask maturation makes the Clément V.O. a classic aged expression within the Rhum Clément range.

Tasting Note

Colour: Warm amber with golden highlights.

Nose: Expressive, with notes of ripe sugar cane, vanilla and subtle oak, accompanied by fruity and spicy nuances.

Palate: Round and well-balanced with vanilla, caramelised fruit and spicy oak, complemented by the characteristic herbal sugar cane note of Rhum Agricole.

Finish: Long-lasting and harmonious with subtle oak spice, vanilla and a delicate, lingering hint of sugar cane fruit.

Clément Rhum Vieux Agricole V.O. is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at around 18 to 20 °C or over a large ice cube. It pairs well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, mature cheeses and desserts featuring banana, vanilla or caramel. Its combination of sugarcane character and oak-aged notes also works well in a Ö Rum Old Fashioned or other spirit-forward cocktails.
