The Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Rotes Tor Federspiel DAC 2024 is an authentic expression of Wachau wine culture and comes from one of Austria's most renowned winegrowers. The "Rotes Tor" vineyard, named after a historic town gate above Spitz on the Danube, is one of the best parcels in the Wachau. Here, the vines grow on stony, sometimes barren terraced soils with a high proportion of primary rock, which offer ideal conditions for mineral-rich wines with depth and character.

This Grüner Veltliner belongs to the Federspiel quality category, which stands for balanced, medium-bodied wines with a classic drinking strength of 12.5 % vol. The grapes are selectively harvested, gently pressed and matured in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, purity and varietal character. The style is clear, precise and straightforward - typical of Hirtzberger, typical of the Wachau.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the wine is a light straw yellow with greenish reflections. The nose is characterised by fresh apple notes, fine white pepper and a hint of citrus. On the palate, the Veltliner is dry, flavoursome and lively, with animating acidity, an elegant texture and a mineral backbone. The finish is clear and persistent with typical Wachau refinement.

Ideal with Austrian cuisine such as fried chicken, Wiener schnitzel or boiled beef, but also with grilled fish, asparagus, risotto with herbs or Asian-inspired dishes. The Veltliner is a versatile accompaniment to both light everyday dishes and fine menus.
