Description
The Regele Traminer Sulztaler Zoppelberg Eiswein 1997 is an exceptional and rare unique sweet wine from the renowned single vineyard Zoppelberg in Sulztal on the South Styrian Wine Route. The Regele winery, based in Leibnitz (South Styria), has stood for quality-orientated viticulture with deep respect for nature and the terroir for decades. This rarity from 1997 was harvested under the most severe climatic conditions - at a minimum of -7 °C, as is required for a true ice wine.
The Traminer grape variety, known for its intense flavour and structure, is predestined for noble sweet wines. The sugars and flavours concentrated deep in the frozen grapes result in an extremely rich, opulent must concentrate after the slow pressing process. The subsequent very long fermentation and careful ageing produces a wine with enormous ageing potential, complex flavours and a velvety sweetness. Despite its high degree of maturity, this ice wine retains its freshness and elegance thanks to its fine acidity structure. With an alcohol content of 12% vol., it is powerful yet balanced.
A real treasure for lovers of mature dessert wines and a prime example of the longevity of great noble sweet wines from Styria.
Tasting Note
The colour of the ice wine is bright gold with amber reflections. The nose reveals an intense bouquet of dried rose petals, honey, apricot jam, candied orange peel and cloves. On the palate, the wine is silky, concentrated and full-bodied, with lush sweetness, balanced acidity and a long, lingering, spicy-sweet finish that lingers for a long time. An ice wine of impressive depth and elegance.
