Ardnahoe - Islay single malt whisky with a fresh perspective
Ardnahoe is the ninth distillery on the Isle of Islay and combines modern technology with traditional standards. Founded by Hunter Laing & Co. in 2019, it produces a malt with a strong character from soft loch water, highly peated malt and fermented with long fermentation.
Region & surroundings
Ardnahoe is located in Port Askaig, on the remote north-east coast of Islay, between Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain. The distillery offers breathtaking views over Loch Ardnahoe and the Sound of Islay - a place as wild and rugged as its whisky.
Production & style
Heavily peated barley malt (approx. 40 ppm) is used here. After up to 70 hours of fermentation, the whisky is distilled in copper pot stills - uniquely using worm tubs: an ancient cooling technology that provides depth and soft texture.
Maturation & Cask Profile
Ardnahoe is matured in first-fill American white oak bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry casks from Spain. On-site maturation rounds off the style with maritime freshness and intense oak spice.
Inaugural Release & Infinite Loch
Enjoyment tips
Best enjoyed neat at room temperature or with a drop of water to open up the complexity. The whiskies are also excellent with cheese or seafood.
Conclusion
Ardnahoe brings a breath of fresh air to the Islay tradition: smoky, profound and interpreted with modern technology. An exciting distillate for connoisseurs and new discoverers - exclusively at delicando.
