El Tequileño Tequila was founded in 1959 by Don Jorge Salles Cuervo in the town of Tequila, Jalisco. Since its inception, the brand has become a symbol of authenticity and excellence by preserving traditional tequila-making methods whilst upholding the highest standards of quality. The name El Tequileño pays tribute to the town of Tequila and the people who live and work in this region.

El Tequileño Tequila is produced using a traditional process that has been practised in the Tequila region for centuries. The blue agaves are harvested by hand before being cooked in a traditional oven, the ‘horno’. This is a slow and gentle process that allows the agave’s natural sugars to caramelise and the complex flavours that make El Tequileño so special to develop.

After cooking, the agave hearts are crushed and the juice extracted before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation takes place naturally, without additives, ensuring an authentic flavour. Finally, the tequila is distilled twice to guarantee its purity and clarity.

El Tequileño offers a range of premium tequilas, all made from hand-selected blue agaves. These agaves are left to mature for at least seven years before being harvested, to ensure they have achieved the perfect balance of sugar and acidity. The main varieties are:

• El Tequileño Blanco: A crystal-clear tequila renowned for its freshness and purity. It offers notes of fresh citrus, sweet agave and a hint of pepper, making it ideal for cocktails such as margaritas.
• El Tequileño Reposado: This tequila is aged for at least eight months in American oak barrels, developing a richer, smoother flavour. It displays aromas of vanilla, caramel and a hint of oak, which harmonise perfectly with the sweetness of the agave.
• El Tequileño Añejo Gran Reserva: The Añejo is aged for over a year in oak barrels and offers a deep, complex aroma with notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts and a subtle hint of spices. This tequila is perfect for enjoying neat.
