Since 1999, the Slyrs Distillery has been producing Upper Bavaria’s first and only single malt whisky, distilled using the traditional ‘Rau’ and ‘Fein’ methods. The name ‘Slyrs’ is a pseudo-Gaelic variation of ‘Schliersee’, the distillery’s home town, and reflects the regional ties and traditional craftsmanship that are expressed in every drop of this whisky.

The name of the Slyrs Fifty One Single Malt Whisky refers to its distinctive 51% ABV, which gives this whisky its characterful expression. Maturation begins in new 225-litre American white oak casks. In addition, casks previously used to store sherry, port or Sauternes are employed for the Fifty One to impart a special depth and complexity to the whisky.

Following maturation in the Upper Bavarian mountain climate, the cask strength is adjusted to drinking strength using pure mountain spring water. The Slyrs Fifty One is neither coloured nor chill-filtered, which preserves its natural purity and authenticity.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark gold with an amber sheen.

Nose: Complex, with notes of dried fruit, honey, toasted oak and subtle winey aromas.

Palate: Full-bodied and powerful with notes of dark caramel, dried fruit, spices, vanilla and a delicate sweetness from the various cask types.

Finish: Long, spicy and warm with subtle fruitiness and notes of oak.

Slyrs Fifty One is ideal for enjoying neat at room temperature, but can also be opened with a few drops of water to bring out its variety of cask influences even more. Perfect for whisky lovers who appreciate full-bodied and characterful bottlings. Culinary pairings include grilled beef, game with cranberry jus, strong mountain cheese or dark chocolate with orange zest.
