Tasting Note

Colour: Deep mahogany with coppery highlights.

Nose: Intense and complex, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and fine spices. Subtle sherry notes blend with aged leather, tobacco and exotic woods.

Palate: Full-bodied, velvety and profound, with a perfect balance of ripe plums, sultanas, walnuts and a hint of mocha. Notes of cloves, oak and a hint of fine leather round off the profile.

Finish: Very long, complex and warming, with a blend of sweet dried fruit, dark chocolate and a subtle smokiness.

A whisky of this calibre deserves to be enjoyed neat – ideally at room temperature and in a high-quality nosing glass to allow its multi-layered aromas to unfold fully. A few drops of water can help to open up the depths of the aromas even further.

Culinary pairings: this 45-year-old Macduff harmonises perfectly with dark chocolate (70 per cent cocoa and above), mature Stilton cheese or roasted hazelnuts. This whisky also reveals its full elegance when paired with a fine cigar.
