The Old Raven Triple Distilled Single Malt Whisky Black Edition, bottled at cask strength at 54% vol., is a powerful and characterful release from one of Austria’s pioneering distilleries. The Old Raven distillery is situated in a former Hungarian customs house in the Lafnitz Valley, a region renowned for its unspoilt natural surroundings and traditional distilling craftsmanship. The water from the 98-metre-deep ‘Rabenbrunnen’ gives this whisky its unmistakable character and ensures exceptional purity.

This triple-distilled single malt is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, ensuring it retains its natural flavour and full range of aromas. Maturation takes place in selected original casks from Spain and Kentucky, giving the whisky a perfect balance of spicy, sweet and toasty notes.

A special anecdote from the distillery is ‘Charly’, a tamed raven who is regarded as the guardian of the whisky casks and is already a legend in his own right – a symbol of the soul and quality of this exceptional whisky.

Tasting Note

Colour: Natural amber with golden highlights.

Nose: Intense aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, vanilla and a subtle spiciness from the cask maturation.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex with notes of toffee, dried fruit, honey and roasted nuts. The cask maturation lends it a pleasant oaky spice with a hint of caramel.

Finish: Long and intense with warm wood and cocoa nuances, accompanied by a subtle smoky note.

This intense single malt whisky reveals its aromas best when enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to gently open up the cask strength. Culinary pairings include mature cheeses, dark chocolate or grilled meat. It also offers a perfect tasting experience when enjoyed with a fine cigar or a strong espresso.
