The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, continues to preserve many traditional methods in its production process to this day. For example, the barley is still grown on site, and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor – a rarity in the modern whisky industry. Furthermore, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers, who are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the casks to ensure optimum quality throughout the entire maturation process.

The Balvenie 12 Year Old ‘The Sweet Toast of American Oak’ is a remarkable release from the Balvenie Stories range, which tells the story of the up-and-coming whisky expert Kelsey McKechnie. The young Scottish woman, who is following in the footsteps of whisky legend David Stewart, is being personally mentored by him with a view to one day taking over his role at William Grant & Sons.

For this special bottling, Kelsey had fresh American white oak casks imported from Kentucky, which were double-toasted at Balvenie’s in-house cooperage. A Balvenie Single Malt, which had previously been matured for several years in ex-bourbon casks, was then finished in these casks. The result is an exceptionally fruity and vanilla-sweet whisky that bears the hallmark of a new generation of whisky craftsmen.

Palate: Candied fruit, coconut, delicate vanilla.
