The Tsunuki Distillery, situated in a picturesque region in the south of Japan, benefits from a unique climate with hot summers and mild winters, which favours a particularly expressive maturation process. This single malt was distilled between 2016 and 2017 and matured in carefully selected casks before being bottled at a robust 50% ABV. The result is a complex, peaty whisky with a harmonious balance of sweet, spicy and smoky flavours.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden amber with brilliant highlights.

Nose: Intense peaty notes, smoked malt, dried fruit, honey and a delicate maritime breeze.

Palate: Full-bodied and robust, with notes of sweet smoke, vanilla, dark caramel, citrus fruits and subtle herbal notes.

Finish: Long and smoky, with spicy woody notes, a hint of liquorice and lingering malty sweetness.

The Mars Tsunuki Single Malt Peated is best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water to enhance the complexity of the smoke and fruity notes. It pairs superbly with grilled meat, smoked cheese or dark chocolate with sea salt. It is also an ideal accompaniment to Japanese dishes such as yakitori, grilled fish or miso-based dishes. For connoisseurs keen to experiment, it also makes a great base for a peaty Whisky Sour or a smoky Old Fashioned.
