The Nagahama Roman 8 Years Old Pure Malt Whisky is a rare and impressive bottling from the small, artisanal Nagahama Distillery, which is one of Japan’s youngest and, at the same time, most exciting distilleries. Situated on the shores of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Nagahama combines traditional whisky-making craftsmanship with Japanese precision and a keen understanding of maturation and blending.

The term ‘Pure Malt’ means that this whisky consists exclusively of malt whiskies from various distilleries – in this case, single malts matured for eight years, sourced from the distillery’s own production as well as from Scottish and Japanese stocks, have been skilfully blended together. The suffix ‘Roman’ here stands for ‘story’ or ‘narrative’ – each bottle is an expression of the journey and development of this young distillery. Bottled at 47 % ABV, without chill filtration or colouring, this whisky is powerful, elegant and multi-layered.

Tasting Note

Colour: Golden yellow with warm amber tones.

Nose: Complex and expressive with notes of honey, dried fruit, vanilla, oak and a hint of smoke.

Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious, with flavours of malt, caramel, roasted nuts, sweet spices and a subtle hint of peat.

Finish: Long-lasting, slightly spicy with elegant sweetness, a woody structure and a hint of herbal aroma.
