Jin Jiji India Dry Gin is an artisanally produced small-batch gin from India that brings together the country’s botanical diversity in a unique recipe. Its name is derived from the Hindi word ‘Jijivisha’, which roughly translates as ‘joy of life’ or ‘will to live’. At the heart of the gin lies wild-harvested Himalayan juniper, which is combined with Macedonian juniper and a variety of Indian botanicals. These include Darjeeling black tea, tulsi (holy basil), camomile, Indian lemon peel, cardamom, fennel, cloves and cashew nuts, complemented by coriander seeds and angelica root. Some of these plants have a long tradition in India and have also been used in Ayurveda for centuries. The current recipe is based on a neutral rice spirit, which deliberately allows the juniper to take centre stage.


Jin Jiji Gin is distilled in small batches in copper pot stills. Production has been relocated from Goa to the new distillery in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, in northern India. There, a modern India Dry Gin with an ABV of 43% is produced, whose recipe combines regional ingredients with classic gin botanicals. In particular, the combination of Himalayan juniper, Darjeeling tea, tulsi and cardamom emphasises its Indian origins, whilst chamomile and citrus peel add floral and fresh notes. Bottled in a 0.7-litre bottle, Jin Jiji Gin was specifically developed with a balanced gin and tonic in mind and offers a distinctive alternative to classic European dry gins.

Tasting Note

Colour: Clear.

Nose: Fresh and juniper-driven, with aromatic Himalayan juniper, lively citrus notes and floral hints of chamomile, accompanied by subtle spices and herbs.

Palate: Dry and well-balanced with robust juniper, Indian lemon peel and spicy cardamom, complemented by Darjeeling black tea, tulsi, coriander and a subtle floral note.

Finish: Lingering and dry, with juniper, subtle citrus freshness, herbs and a pleasantly warming spicy note.

Jin Jiji India Dry Gin was designed specifically for a gin and tonic and pairs best with a high-quality, rather dry tonic water that does not overpower the distinctive botanicals. Lemon zest or a thin slice of lemon make ideal garnishes, whilst a sprig of fresh tulsi can further enhance the Indian character. The juniper, tea and spices also come into their own in a Dry Martini, Gin Fizz or Collins. Culinary pairings include Indian starters, mildly spiced curries, tandoori dishes or grilled fish.
