Montenegro Amaro Italiano Bitter 23% ABV 0.7 l is a traditional Italian herbal liqueur that has been produced by a family-run business since 1885. The distiller, Stanislao Cobianchi, inspired by a trip around the world, created the secret recipe for this Amaro, which consists of over 40 different herbs and spices. Among the best-known botanicals are sweet and bitter oranges, coriander seeds, marjoram, oregano, mugwort, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. This careful blend gives Montenegro Amaro its unique complexity and makes it one of Italy’s best-known and most popular amari. Some connoisseurs also refer to this cult Amaro as the ‘liqueur of virtues’, as it perfectly combines both bitterness and a pleasant sweetness.

Tasting Note

Colour: Dark brown, with reddish highlights.

Nose: Spicy aromas of herbs, citrus fruits, a slight hint of aniseed, and a touch of vanilla and orange.

Palate: Full-bodied, bittersweet, a complex blend of herbs, citrus fruits, liquorice, gentle sweetness and a subtle hint of spice.

Finish: Long-lasting, slightly bitter, with a pleasant sweetness that lingers gently on the palate.

Montenegro Amaro is ideal as a digestif after a heavy meal or with a cheese platter featuring strong cheeses such as Parmesan or Pecorino. It is also excellent in cocktails, such as a ‘Negroni’ or an ‘Amaro Sour’.
