Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt distillery based at Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire, near Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands. The conversion of the former farm into a distillery with a bonded warehouse was completed prior to the distillery commencing operations in August 2018. The distillery is run by John Campbell, the former manager of the Laphroaig Distillery, and is family-owned. The farm, where the Scottish poet Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784, uses barley grown and harvested on the premises, as well as water from limestone springs beneath the distillery. This ensures full traceability throughout the production process.

The Lochlea Ploughing Edition 2nd Crop, matured in ex-Laphroaig casks previously used for the Laphroaig 10 Years Old, combines typical fruit and cereal notes with a hint of Islay. This edition, matured for a longer period and exclusively in fresh Islay casks rather than quarter casks, marks a significant step forward in development compared to the first batch. It is the final instalment in a series that completes the 2nd Crop Set, comprising the Sowing, Harvest and Fallow editions.

Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Light, with notes of baked fruit and peat smoke.

Palate: Fruity, notes of Brazil nuts, cooked apples, sweets.

Finish: Long-lasting, nutty.

Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
