For centuries, the inhabitants of Luss, a village on the western shore of Loch Lomond, used Inchmoan as a source of peat fuel. The name ‘Inchmoan’ means ‘the island of peat’ in Gaelic, which underlines the island’s historical significance.

Inchmoan 12 Years Old is a blend of malt whiskies distilled in two different types of stills: traditional swan-neck pot stills and straight-neck pot stills. This combination aims to produce a whisky with a pronounced peaty character, which also exhibits notes of smoke and spice.

The whisky is matured over a period of 12 years in two types of cask: newly charred American oak casks and refill American bourbon casks. These casks impart sweet vanilla notes to the whisky, complementing the unique peaty style for which the Loch Lomond Distillery is renowned.

Tasting Note

Colour: Gold.

Nose: Dry peat smoke, vanilla syrup, crushed black pepper.

Palate: Sweet, peat, smoked bacon, roasted coffee beans, notes of cloves, star anise, green apples, pears.

Finish: Long-lasting, peaty, with notes of citrus, hops and gooseberries.
