The Loch Lomond distillery, named after the lake of the same name in the Scottish Midlands, is situated in Alexandria at the southern tip of the lake. It was founded in 1966 by the American Littlemill Distillery Company, closed in 1984 and reopened in 1987 under the management of the Bulloch family. A distinctive feature of the distillery, alongside the two classic pot stills, are the six Lomond stills – pot stills which, like Coffey stills, have troughs in the neck.

This edition of Loch Lomond, released specifically for the Austrian market, was distilled in 2013 and matured for nine years in a Rivesaltes sweet wine cask bearing the number 22/718-5. A total of 281 bottles were bottled at cask strength.

The Vin Doux Naturel Rivesaltes AOC originates from the Roussillon region in the south of France, near the Pyrenees. Similar to port wine, the natural sweetness is preserved by the addition of brandy during fermentation. This Vin Doux Naturel method was discovered in the 13th century by the Catalan physician and pharmacist Arnaldus de Villanova and represents the world’s oldest fortified wines.

Nose: Sweet syrup, vanilla, citrus fruits.

Palate: Coconuts, candied lemon peel, ginger, red apples, oak spice.

Finish: Long-lasting.
