Nikka from the Barrel Whisky is produced in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, by the Yoichi Distillery.

Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, sought out the best conditions for his first distillery. The Yoichi Distillery was founded in 1934 in the small coastal town of the same name. This location is renowned for its cold climate with moderate humidity, fresh, clean air and fresh water. The distillation process is still carried out at the distillery today using traditional, time-honoured methods. The stills are heated by a direct charcoal fire, which brings out the intense toasted notes.

This whisky is a blend of two Nikka single malts – Miyagikyo and Yoichi – as well as a single grain whisky. The whisky is matured in both bourbon and sherry casks.

Tasting Note

Colour: Reddish-brown.

Nose: Fruity, floral, spicy, with a hint of orange.

Palate: Complex, smoky, spicy, oaky, honey.

Finish: Long-lasting, spicy, with a hint of vanilla.
