Description
Description
The house was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot and has specialised in the production of champagne ever since, with a focus on the Pinot Noir grape variety. After the death of her husband Francois Clicquot just two years after their marriage, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin took over the management of the company in 1810. In 1986, Veuve Clicquot merged with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. Jacques Peters is currently the company's head winemaker. Veuve Clicquot's motto, both then and now, is: "Only one quality - the best".
This cuvée consists of 50-55% Pinot Noir, 28-33% Chardonnay and 15-20% Meunier. The dominant grape variety gives this champagne strength and structure, while the Chardonnay lends it elegance, freshness and delicacy. The hint of Meunier favours the wonderful fruity nuances.
The reserve wines make up 30 to 45% of the blend, depending on the vintage. These come from up to 6 different harvests and are kept in individual containers per grape variety, per cru and per vintage.
This Yellow Label matures for 12 months in wooden barrels, which leads to the unique roundness of the Champagne. The champagne is bottled in bottles sealed with a natural cork and has a storage potential of around 3 years.
Tasting Note
In the glass, the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Yellow Label has a radiant, golden yellow colour with a lively perlage that emphasises its freshness and elegance. A finely nuanced bouquet of white fruits, ripe pears and apples unfolds on the nose, accompanied by delicate citrus notes and a hint of brioche, hinting at the long maturation on the lees. On the palate, the champagne is balanced and structured with a harmonious combination of freshness and fullness. The fruity flavours are complemented by hints of vanilla, toasted almonds and subtle mineral notes. The finish is long-lasting, lively and elegant, with a fine complexity that is typical of the House of Veuve Clicquot.
Grape varieties: Chardonnay 28%, Pinot Noir 56%, Pinot Meunier 16%
Residual sugar: 10 g/l
Acidity: 5.4 g/l
Drinking temperature: 8°C
Ageing potential: 3-4 years
The Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label is ideal as an aperitif, but also shows its full class when paired with fine food. We particularly recommend pairing it with fine sushi, fresh oysters or scallops. It also harmonises perfectly with creamy cheeses such as mature Brie or Chaource. If you prefer something more refined, you can serve it with a roast breast of guinea fowl with a citrus reduction or with a light fish terrine. A tarte tatin with a hint of vanilla is recommended as a dessert accompaniment.
